Martin County Fire Rescue FF Fred Pierno Jr. died February 25 due to an illness he contracted on the job. FF Pierno has been under medical treatment since October 2006 for a Hepatitis C Virus infection he sustained while performing his firefighter duties. He's reported to be the 13th firefighter in the USA and the 7th in Florida to be classified as a line of duty death due to a hepatitis infection.
