Melbourne, FL Fire Lieutenant Robert Strang died in the Line of Duty unexpectedly last night at Fire Station 74 in Melbourne. Strang was a 29 year veteran with the department.
Lieutenant Strang returned from a structure fire Thursday night and he was found about 40 minutes later unresponsive in quarters....his crew initiated resuscitation efforts and he was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
So far, no cause has been determined. The fire was at an office complex in downtown Melbourne. The department says Strang did not have any complaints prior to retiring to his quarters.
Lt. Strang began his career with the Melbourne FD in February 1980. During his 29 years he was promoted through the ranks from firefighter to Lieutenant....he also spent some time working with Orange County Fire Rescue. Strang is survived by an 18-year-old son and was scheduled to retire soon.
