Become A Camp Pendleton Firefighter

Looking for an exciting job with one of the most unique fire departments in Southern California?  This page has instructions and links to help you understand DoD (Department of Defense) Fire Protection, what’s needed to be a DoD Firefighter, and how to submit your resume/application.

First click on the DoD Fire link  as it explains the certification process, how it came about, and how it works.

Next, click on the basic requirements of a DoD Firefighter.

At CPFD, the following qualifications are either required or considered highly desirable:

  • Pre-service Fire Academy/CSFM FF I certification
  • Wildland Firefighting experience (i.e., hand crew)
  • Firefighter I & II
  • Haz-Mat Operations
  • ARFF Firefighter
  • Driver Operator Pumper
  • Driver Operator Aerial
  • California Class B Drivers License
  • Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B)

How do I apply for this job at CPFD?   Go to: Department of the Navy Human Resources site.

  1. Here you will need to create a login and password.
  2. After that you will need to create a resume.

For the last page of the resume (What is the lowest salary that you will accept?) go with the lowest 72 hour GS 03 firefighter pay off the 2009 Pay Chart and select all applicable geographical locations for which you desire job consideration.

  1. After you created a resume you want to submit your resume.  Here you will want to go to Search for Jobs click on Search All Jobs then in the box next to Series put in 0081.   A list of job openings will open up.

  1. Next, click on DON0081.  Before moving on to step 5, ensure your resume is complete.

  1. Click Apply Now.  You will be asked what pay plan or plans you wish to apply for.  You can select all that apply to you if you desire, it will not hurt your chances.

  1. Congratulations!  You have just applied for a job at Camp Pendleton Fire.  When you look at your My Status under the Applicant Tool tab look for the Job Location row, and if you see 00681, this is Camp Pendleton.  To look up other codes click here.

You may also go to www.usajobs.gov and look at all jobs the Federal Government has available and the agencies that are hiring worldwide.
