FORT MOHAVE — Mike Carlon has no relatives in the Tri-state area, but some of his brothers still showed up at Valley View Medical Center Thursday to wish him a speedy recovery.
Carlon served 31 years in fire service, most recently with the Camp Pendleton Fire Department in California, where he retired five years ago as a lieutenant.
Terry Thomas, a recently retired captain of the Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Department, heard about Carlon’s hospital stay from a mutual friend at Camp Pendleton and decided to try to arrange a visit.
A crew from FMMFD Station 91, including acting Capt. Matthew Branson, obliged.
Branson said the visit was a way of extending comfort to a colleague that needs it.
“It’s nice to know that if I was in his position, my brothers would come visit me as well,” Branson said.
The visiting firefighters left Carlon with two things: a FMMFD T-shirt and an invitation to stop by the station for dinner.
“That was fabulous,” said Carlon, who had surgery Wednesday. “That made my day.”
